IDN: The Poolside @ Nirwana Gardens

Delightful, albeit expensive, Javanese style fried noodle!

I found myself back at Nirwana Gardens Resort in Bintan, Indonesia for another quick getaway after slightly less than two years. I stayed in one of the cabanas at Nirwana Beach Club, whereas this year, I stayed at Nirwana Resort Hotel. Let's check out what they've got to offer at The Poolside.

Pikachu couldn't wait to dig in. :)

Indonesian Satay (Chicken) Rp 180,000 (~S$19.15)
Taste: 8/10

The Indonesian style chicken skewers were marinated well, not too sweet for my tongue. The white meat was adequately tender and juicy, while the peanut dipping sauce was pretty chunky. One thing missing from the equation was the bunch of freshly sliced shallots.

Mie Goreng Jawa Rp 175,000 (~S$18.60)
Taste: 9/10

I've got no idea when how long had I not eaten Javanese style fried noodle prior to that dinner, and I must say it was the best decision to order one. The springy egg noodle was fried so well that the wok hei (lit. breath of the wok) made me crave for more with each bite, complete with chicken, shrimps, fish cakes, eggs, beansprouts and chye sim (Chinese mustard green).

Fried Rice Kampong Style Rp 200,000 (~S$21.25)
Taste: 6/10

The more expensive main course of fried rice turned out to be lacking in wonder. The wok hei wasn't as heady as that from the fried noodle, while the shredded beef wasn't that tender. The fried prawns weren't crunchy, but the anchovies were good. Apart from that, I'd love the pickled vegetables to be sourer.

Summer Shore Rp 155,000 (~S$16.50)
Taste: 7/10

Instead of ordering dessert, I decided to try one of the signature cocktails. The concoction of rum, cacao liqueur, milk, banana, kiwi and passion fruit syrup tasted like milkshake with a faint fruity fragrance. Being only mildly alcoholic, it was decent, but not special.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

Pika's advice: You may want to consider the Seafood Grill Fridays and Meat and Grill Saturdays buffet. Here's but one picture of me waiting for sunrise.
