SIN: The Forgotten Recipe

Moist beef meatballs with spicy creamy sauce, anyone?

Helmed by Chef Ryan, The Forgotten Recipe aims to "celebrate our past, remember our roots and savour our memories" by serving traditional food cooked the original way, while some of them are upgraded into fusion cuisine.

Honeydew couldn't wait to discover the dishes that would whet her appetite.

Spicy Beef Meatballs S$10.90
Taste: 8/10

A Western style dish of meatballs with tomato-based sauce is ordinary, but have you tried those spheres of minced meat with spicy cream sauce? Well, I enjoyed the appetiser as the meatballs were juicy, while the dull-coloured sauce turned out to be savoury and spicy enough for my liking.

Curry Devil S$10.90
Taste: 7.5/10

The slow-cooked chicken thigh in a spicy, vinegary gravy was accompanied by chicken sausages, potatoes and carrots, not forgetting the white rice and sunny-side up egg. I found the white meat to be pretty tender. While the dish was adequately spicy, it could be richer in terms of taste.

Navarin Lamb Stew S$16.90
Taste: 7.5/10

As one of the chef's signature dishes, the lamb stew was somewhat lacking the oomph. The lamb cubes were pretty succulent, although the sauce that came with celery and tomato cubes could be sweeter and less salty. The bed of mashed potatoes could be a bit creamier.

Double Chocolate Walnut Brownie S$8.00
Taste: 7.5/10

The brownie was notably dense in terms of texture, although it could be more chocolatey, with sinful peanut butter smacked in between. The salted caramel ice cream was replaced with its vanilla counterpart the restaurant ran out of the former that day. Pika's advice: To reduce your calorie intake, you may opt out from the peanut butter and and ice cream for S$2.00 less.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10

The food wasn't really spectacular, but service was friendly. Would you like to discover the rest of the forgotten recipes?
