SIN: Kaiserhaus {CLOSED}

Dine like an emperor with beef soup, crispy potatoes and creamed spinach!

UPDATE (15/10/2018): The restaurant has closed down.

Kaiserhaus is a glamorous restaurant inside the Capitol Theatre, offering a plethora of Eastern European dishes. It promises "an exquisite dining menu fit for an Emperor" with culinary delights from the former Habsburg Empire.

Emperor Cow was ready for the feast.

Crispy Fried Mushrooms S$14.00
Taste: 8.5/10

Split into two plates for my BFF and me each, the crispy fried mushrooms were a delight to have as an appetiser due to their juicy flesh and springy texture. They were breaded thinly, going well with the tangy homemade tartar sauce and a dash of lemon juice.

Bohemian Pork Roast S$26.00
Taste: 8.5/10

The roasted pork main course was satisfying, thanks to the tender meat in natural jus with the highly crispy crackling. Besides root vegetables, it was accompanied by the slightly chewy bread dumplings and gabelkraut, the sweeter version of the more well-known sauerkraut (lit. sour cabbage).

Tafelspitz (Single Serve) S$38.00
Taste: 8/10

Grain-fed beef rump, oyster blade and bone marrow were served in a copper pot full of bouillon and vegetables. I really enjoyed the tender red meat with the horseradish sauce that was aromatic and spicy enough. The crispy potatoes weren't bad, but some of the pieces were too bitter for my liking. Also, the creamed spinach was so-so, resulting in the slightly lower overall score.

Kaisertorte S$10.50
Taste: 8.5/10

To end off the meal like an emperor, we decided to share a slice of cacao cream cake with alternating layers of hazelnut meringue and marzipan, topped with chocolate shavings and castor sugar. It was such a beautiful cake that was enjoyably rich without being too sweet.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

I was certainly pleased with the quality of the food served, and I'd certainly love to explore more into the rest of the Eastern European dishes offered by the restaurant. Pika's advice: For those who like apple strudel, you may want to try the imported apple strudel flavoured juice.
