FJI: Tigers Lounge Bar & Café

What a cheap and huge Chinese fried noodle dish! :O

After having a wonderful time at Taveuni, I flew back to Nadi and subsequently stayed at the basic Nadi Downtown Hotel (2*). There are many eateries within walking distance from the hotel, and I've got to say that there are lots of Chinese restaurants around. I decided to drop by Tigers Lounge Bar & Café that serves mainly Chinese and Indo-Fijian cuisine.

Besides Indo-Fijian cuisine, the eatery does serve a few original Indian dishes as well, such as butter chicken. However, I didn't order any of those.

Deep-Fried Wantons FJD 8.00 (~S$5.15)
Taste: 8/10

As a starter, the deep-fried wantons didn't disappoint at all. Filled with minced chicken and ginger, each of the bite-sized Chinese delicacy was enjoyably crispy and aromatic. They were sitting on a a small amount of greens that weren't particularly fresh though.

Chicken Chow Mein FJD 8.00 (~S$5.15)
Taste: 7.5/10

The first main course that came to the table turned out to be a really HUGE dish. Again, there was an adequate amount of ginger that made the dish fragrant, complementing the smoky aroma well. For the uninitiated, the name of the dish comes from the romanisation of 炒麵. Pika's advice: You may want to consider ordering this dish when there are three of more people in your party.

Kai Curry FJD 8.00 (~S$9.70)
Taste: 7.5/10

The Fijian word kai means 'mussels' in English. Stir-fried with garlic, shallots, curry leaves and Indian spices, the mussels were pretty savoury, although fresher ones would be much appreciated. The lentil curry was delightfully thick, while the papadum (Indian thin and crisp disc made from black gram) was crispy and adequately salty.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10

My BFF and I couldn't finish the chow mein, so we took the remaining away to eat during tea time at the hotel.

The downtown area is small enough to be explored by foot. I'm pretty surprised at the number of supermarkets of different brands available there.

At the southern end of the main downtown road lies the Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple, which is the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere.
