MAS: 1 Meter Teh

A 24-hour café with affordable simple food at First World Hotel!

I finally managed to stay at First World Hotel (3*) during my short getaway to Genting Highlands, Malaysia. For the uninitiated, the hotel has set the Guinness World Record for the largest hotel in the world in terms of the total number of rooms, which is 7,351 at the point of writing. As the room that I booked didn't come with breakfast, my family and I went for a quick breakfast at 1 Meter Teh early in the morning before catching our bus back to Singapore.

Nasi Lemak RM 5.50 (~S$1.90)
Taste: 6/10

Being slightly aromatic, the nasi lemak (Malay rice dish cooked in coconut milk with pandan leaves) was decent. The portion was quite small though, inclusive of anchovies, half and egg, a slice of cucumber and chili that was adequately spicy.

Mee Goreng RM 7.50 (~S$2.60)
Taste: 6/10

The mee goreng (lit. fried noodle) wasn't bad either, coming with fish cake slices, egg, vegetables and a slice of cucumber as well. The egg noodle was pretty starchy, which I enjoyed quite a bit. Besides that, it wasn't overly greasy.

Fish Porridge RM 8.00 (~S$2.75)
Taste: 6.5/10

While I'd prefer porridge with a slightly thicker consistency, I found the one served at the small café to be the best among the three items that we ordered. The fish slices were of acceptable freshness, while the fried shallots, light soy sauce and sesame oil added depth to the otherwise plain porridge.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6/10
Ambience: 5/10
Overall: 5.5/10

Pika's advice: From what I heard from other customers, the teh tarik (lit. pulled tea) seemed pretty nice. Do give it a try. We've come to the end of this short trip series. Before I sign off, here's a picture of the Chin Swee Caves Temple, a Taoist temple that's just a short shuttle bus ride away from First World Hotel.
