SIN: Wood & Steel Gastrobar

Enjoy grilled twin king prawns at the upper deck of a boat~

Enjoy al-fresco dining on a boat, but no time to go on a cruise? Wood & Steel Gastrobar is a nice place to unwind after a tiring day at work, situated on the upper deck of Stewords Riverboat at Marina South Pier. That was my very first time alighting at the relatively new MRT station since its opening on 23 November 2014.

My little bear was overwhelmed by the jumbo king prawns! :P

G. P. Wings S$10.00
Taste: 7/10

I've got no idea what does G. P. stand for. Does anyone know? Anyway, the chicken wings placed on a steel container were moist, but not kicking in terms of the flavours. The parmesan cheese did add a savoury touch, but certainly didn't elevate them into a highly memorable appetiser.

Blue Eyed Boy S$26.00
Taste: 8/10

Presented on a wooden board were pan-seared rib-eye chunks rubbed with salt and pepper. The red meat was quite juicy and tender with an adequate amount of fats. Served alongside carrots and celery sticks, it went well with the blue cheese dip that was a little salty, a little tart and not overpowering in terms of aroma.

Hail to the King S$29.00
Taste: 8/10

Two grilled jumbo-sized king prawns were drizzled with butter cream dressing, which unfortunately was too little an amount to tantalise the taste buds to a greater extent. Despite that, the prawns were adequately fresh, retaining their natural sweetness. They came with leafy greens and cherry tomatoes.

Apple Crumble S$9.00
Taste: 7/10

Notice the contrast in this particular picture of the dessert compared to the rest? I waited for a long time for the apple crumble to come. It had a nice sweet and sour filling with a hint of cinnamon, but the crust wasn't as crumbly as I'd love it to be. The vanilla ice cream had melted a little bit when it came to me.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 6/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Apart from the dessert, the rest of the food ordered that evening came promptly. I asked the staff for the dessert twice, and it was only after the sky turned dark that it finally arrived on the table. What I didn't expect was that the restaurant decided to waive give me the apple crumble for free, which was definitely appreciated. Pika's advice: Do check out their happy hour promotions from the website.
