SIN: Little Saigon

Shaking beef that's guaranteed to shake your taste buds!

My uncle is a big fan of Little Saigon, a pretty classy Vietnamese restaurant adorned with classic lanterns that's situated by the riverside at Clarke Quay. He wanted to introduce me to two items that have effectively hooked him.

Shaking Beef with Rice S$28.00
Taste: 8.5/10

The first item that he wanted me to try was the dish of rice with stir-fried beef, which was amazingly tender and juicy. The brown sauce was mildly savoury and spicy, thus pleasant on the tongue, but perhaps it could use a bit more sugar. He's right; that's one dish definitely worth coming back for. :D

Fried Tofu S$8.00
Taste: 8.5/10

As an accompaniment to the rice dish, we shared a plate of street food snack. The fried tofu was crispy on the outside and surprisingly very juicy inside, testament to the adept frying technique of the chef. It was topped with Vietnamese black bean sauce with a nice hint of sweetness, as well as fresh herbs.

Sticky Rice with Banana S$10.00
Taste: 6.5/10

I enjoy Thai sticky rice with mango, but prior to the dinner, I'd never tried sticky rice with banana. It didn't quite shine though, for the sticky rice didn't really live up to its name. The caramelised banana slices were good, but not extraordinary. As can be seen from the picture, the coconut ice cream melted very easily.

Mango Mojito S$15.50
Taste: 8/10

What a big glass of mojito, don't you think? That's the second item that has compelled him to keep coming back for a drink. That was my virgin experience with mojito mixed with mango juice. While the creative interplay between the sweet tropical fruit juice, sour lime wedges, rum and mint was a bit weak in terms of the alcohol content for my liking, it was indeed refreshing.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

That's a really nice place to sit back and relax after a hectic week of work. Pika's advice: Do check out their happy hour promotions from the website.
