JPN: Tokyo Dai-Ichi Hotel Okinawa Grand Mer Resort (東京第一ホテルオキナワグランメールリゾート) [Breakfast]

The best chocolate danish ever encountered in buffet breakfast!

Such a long name for a hotel, don't you think? The 4* hotel is located in a quiet vicinity somewhere in the central of Okinawa, Japan. An indoor swimming pool is available at the hotel, which means guests can enjoy a dip even during winter.

Assorted Stuff

For a start, I found the vegetables for the salad pretty fresh, but the scrambled eggs could be runnier and more velvety. Local dishes such as pig's ears and goya champuru (Okinawan stir-fried bitter gourd) were available, though the quality certainly couldn't match those served at Rinken's Kitchen. The flavoured rice with mushrooms went really well with the miso (Japanese fermented rice, barley and/or soybean) soup that was substantial and delicious. In comparison to the moist salmon that I had at Hotel Yugaf Inn Bise, the one served at this hotel was dry. On the contrary, the lightly roasted chicken was tender and full of flavours.

Okinawa Soba

It turned out that the soba (Japanese buckwheat noodle) had quite a similar texture to that of Italian fettuccine. The accompanying sweet egg omelette, pickled red ginger strips and spring onions truly added vibrancy to the dish. The soup was a tad too salty for my liking though.

Pancake & Pastry

I ate the moderately fluffy pancake with maple syrup and a bit of butter. The banana cake was quite moist, but not extraordinary. What I truly relished were the two pieces of the glossy chocolate danish that were addictively crispy and buttery.

Fruits

The orange was very sweet and juicy, and so were the lychee and the grapes. The banana slice wasn't that fresh though.

Coffee & Hibiscus Tea

I had two cups of iced coffee that was awakeningly aromatic. The mildly tart hibiscus tea went well with simple syrup.

Pika's advice: There's a free shuttle bus to and from Naha International Airport, as well as the Mihama American Village. Prior reservation is required, so do plan accordingly. Below is a picture of me trying to be like Doraemon. Haha... :P

Can you make a wild guess whether the picture below was taken at sunrise or sunset from the balcony?
