SIN: Parrilla

Mediocre Spanish food, but nice ginger mojito~

Who doesn't love to get treated to a restaurant meal once in a while. After the simple birthday celebration I had in Millenia Walk in September, at Tart Blanc to be exact, I found myself back at the shopping mall I hardly visit for a quiet dinner. Parrilla offers Spanish cuisine.

I believe the 3-Course Set Meal, comprising an appetiser, a main course and a dessert dish, is priced at S$44.90 per pax. Pika's advice: Do check out their Executive Set Lunch as well, which includes a tapas (small savoury dishes typically served with drinks) platter. Prices vary according to the main course ordered.

Roma Tomato and Feta Cheese Salad (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

Both my BFF and I went for the salad each instead of the other option of soup as we felt that we really had to eat more vegetables for the day. The leafy greens were fresh with adequate amounts of tomato and feta cheese cubes. The vinaigrette used was tangy enough.

Mejillas de Ternera Estofada (Set Menu)
Taste: 6.5/10

One of the main courses ordered was the Australian beef cheeks, slow-braised for 18 hours in red wine reduction and sofrito (Spanish sauce consisting of garlic, onions, peppers and tomatoes cooked in olive oil). The meat was undoubtedly tender, even though it wasn't that juicy, but the sauce was a tad too salty. The mashed potatoes were so-so.

Arroz con Ollo (Set Menu)
Taste: 6/10

It's said that bomba is the most appreciated rice species for the well-known Spanish dish, absorbing about 30% more broth compared to other varieties. Well, the restaurant claims to be using that, although the resulting dish wasn't particularly great in terms of taste. The grilled chicken was quite tender though.

Chocolate Bande (Set Menu)
Taste: 7/10

The flourless cake came with crunchy crisped rice and crushed nuts on top. It had a dense texture reminiscent of that of brownies, but the former was creamier. However, I felt that the chocolate flavour could definitely be richer.

Ginger Mojito S$18.00
Taste: 8/10

I was interested to pick something from the long list of cocktails. A concoction of ginger syrup, rum, muddled lime wedges and mint leaves, it was a refreshing drink that was pretty light on the palate, but aromatic. Perhaps having fresh ginger inside would give an enjoyable warm sensation on the throat.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

The food wasn't impressive, but I enjoyed the dim ambience. In fact, I think it may be a bit too dark for some people, but I enjoyed it. Haha... :P
