SIN: Tart Blanc

A happy marriage between peach and salted egg yolk!

Let's take a short break from Turkish food as it's Pikachu's and my birthday! In spite of the current not-so-good situation I'm currently facing, I took a bit of time off in the afternoon for a simple celebration with my BFF. Tart Blanc is a small café tucked in a row of shops in Millenia Walk with its unsurprising, unmistakable white interior.

My dearest Pikachu is always cheerful, isn't he? :D

Soup of the Day S$8.50
Taste: 8.5/10

Our simple birthday lunch started with a warm bowl of soup that was honest-to-goodness. It was a milky concoction with sausages, carrots and spinach, topped with croutons. The crispy bread on the side was toasted just right. Perhaps it could be slightly thicker for the better.

Rosemary Chicken with Pita S$8.50
Taste: 8.5/10

One of the two savoury main dishes ordered was the aromatic rosemary chicken stuffed inside pita bread. I enjoyed the minced chicken that was not only moist, but also naturally sweet. The salad on the side was fresh, accompanied by roasted baby potatoes that whetted my appetite further.

Although the inside might not look that appetising, trust me, it was nice. I guess they could definitely add more chopped onions.

Chimichurri Steak Fajita with Tortilla S$8.50
Taste: 7.5/10

The beef option wasn't bad either, but not as good as its chicken counterpart. We requested it to go with tortilla, which was thin and crispy enough for my liking.

It was a pity that the red meat wasn't as tender as expected. However, the chimichurri sauce, which got its green colour from parsley and oregano, was delectable. Pika's advice: Another beef option is the Chili Beef, which you may want to give a try.

Blood Orange Matcha Tart S$7.50
Taste: 8/10

The first birthday tart that I tried was the dome-shaped blood orange mousse that was sitting on top of fragrant green tea crumbs. The citrus flavour was authentic.

Nested inside was milk chocolate cream with an overtone of malt and vanilla. Anyway, notice that the chocolate was dusted with gold.

Peach and Salted Yolk Tart S$7.50
Taste: 8.5/10

While it might not look as beautiful as the first one, the buttery tart was truly enjoyable. Hidden beneath the sweet peach slices was a molten salted egg yolk filling that provided a nice contrast to the former, even though it was somewhat lacking in terms of quantity, but not quality. The seemingly innocent cubes on top were bursting with the aroma of ginger.

Valrhona Hot Chocolate S$5.20
Taste: 8.5/10

The experience was completed with a cup of warm chocolate that was rich, thick and had the right degree of sweetness. It'd be good to have in a wet weather for sure (instead of having choking haze outside), but I'd really appreciate it if its temperature were to be made higher before serving.

Curaçao Green Tea Mocktail S$5.80
Taste: 8/10

The drink with such a beautiful emerald colour was a mixture of the citrusy, blue-coloured Curaçao liqueur and strong-bodied tea. It was light on the palate and refreshing, though it could be sweeter. It was reminiscent of the one that I had at Spice Restaurant within the vicinity of Nirwana Gardens in Bintan, Indonesia.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 7/10
Overall: 7.5/10

I'd really love to try their other tarts. Thank you for the such a delightful salted egg yolk tart. :)
