SIN: Bricks 'N' Cubes Café {MOVED}

The only eatery serving green and orange-coloured burgers!

UPDATE (05/03/2017): The café has moved to 350 Joo Chiat Road.

August is here! It's been a while since I last stepped into, let alone watched movie, at The Cathay. On the second floor of a building is a Lego-themed cafe that has a play area for children, making it a family-friendly eatery. Are you a fan of The Avengers?

If your answer to the above question is positive, I'm pretty sure the colours of the burgers are familiar to you. Melon was so excited to see them.

The Avengers Burger Set S$14.90
Taste: 7.5/10

While the shapes might not be perfect, I was pretty surprised that those mini burgers tasted more decent that I'd expected. Across the buns were slightly sweet and crispy on the edges. However, the highlight was actually the fries; each shoestring was light, crispy and airy, topped with a bit of herbs. Pika's advice: You can choose the meat to go along with the burgers - chicken, beef, fish or a combination of them.

The grilled chicken was adequately juicy, having a nice charred aroma.

The grilled minced beef was juicy alright, but it could be denser.

The grilled fish was my favourite. It was the juiciest of all, going really well with the sweet garlic mayonnaise.

Wild Mushroom Pasta S$11.90
Taste: 7.5/10

Even though I found it appalling that the pasta dish didn't come out as described in the menu ("cooked with five different mushrooms, covered with luscious creamy pumpkin sauce with apples and walnut"), I didn't make noise about it as it tasted pretty alright. The sauce was enjoyably sweet and thick, even though the spaghetti could be more al dente.

Oreo Cheesecake S$6.50
Taste: 6/10

The dessert, the last piece of Oreo cheesecake on the display, turned out to be mediocre. While the cheese flavour was there alright, I found that the whole cake wasn't as firm as I'd like it to be. In my opinion, the top and bottom layers of the chocolate biscuit crumbs fell apart too easily.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

When I was there, there was a cute Indian boy who tried to build a kind of tower structure. Even though his determination eventually led to it falling apart, it was really interesting to watch him building it so eagerly.
