BBQ fish and crispy fried chicken to die for!

Yesterday, I happened to have the time to catch Minions in the cinema. It was pretty entertaining, but I have to agree with many people that the original Despicable Me was indeed better. After the movie, I decided to give Riverside Indonesian BBQ a try, especially having always seen long queues whenever I walk past the same stall in whichever food court it's operating at.

Everyone has been raving about the black sauce, unmistakably made of uniquely Indonesian sweet soy sauce, that comes with any of the BBQ items. I decided to give the eighth set a try, comprising fish, squid and egg to accompany that curry-laden steamed rice. I enjoyed the succulent fish, but the squid could be fresher and crunchier. The soup had a heavy, interesting aroma that was a blend of pepper and herbs, but it didn't render the heat that one would've expected at all.

Wait, it wasn't all about BBQ. In fact, the stall did an even more palatable fried chicken that I believe many, if not all, Indonesians would truly love. Battered lightly and subsequently deep-fried till golden brown, the chicken thigh retained its moisture. The flavours of the spices seeped into the deep layers of the meat, not to mention that they were concentrated on the crispy skin too. I didn't quite like the chili sauce though, as it was just sweet without being fiery.

I have to be honest that Indonesian Panggang @ The Frontier, NUS did a much better job in making chili sauce, but I can now say that the ever-present queue is justified. Pika's advice: The BBQ chicken seems to be quite a hit among many. Do give it a try.
