SIN: Mellben Legend Seafood

Golden sand crab - truly a gold!

I've been hearing about the legendary, aptly named Mellben Legend Seafood all these while, but only recently I had the chance to go down to Opal Crescent, a small street situated within walking distance from Potong Pasir MRT station, its new home. I heard that they've been in business for more than 20 years at the time of writing.

Golden Sand Crab Seasonal Price
Taste: 9.5/10

The two beautiful crabs, each weighing a kilo, were priced at S$48.00 per kg the other day. Don't you think they looked as if they just came out their hideout in a sandy beach? Fresh to the core, the flesh of the crustaceans were amazingly sweet. Complementing them was the addictively sweet, finger-licking good butter cream sauce, which was nicely peppery as well. Pika's advice: An equally popular dish is the Laksa Crab. Give it a try!

Claypot Lemon Prawn Soup (Small) S$20.00
Taste: 9/10

Another dish that I'd give my two thumbs up would be the beautiful prawns swimming in a truly zesty lemon soup that'd wake anyone up at first sip. Even though the prawns weren't the sweetest I've ever had, they were fresh. The silky tofu cubes provided a nice contrast to the bouncy texture of the crustaceans.

Dry Bak Kut Teh (Small) S$12.00
Taste: 6/10

Have you ever had the well-known pork ribs dish, but without the peppery soup? The eatery served te dry version, but to be honest, it wasn't impressive. While the meat was pretty tender, but not to the point of falling of its bone, I found the sauce to be a bit cloying in terms of sweetness.

Signature Beancurd (Small) S$10.00
Taste: 8.5/10

Anything that's a signature dish is something that I'm always tempted to try. The eatery's signature beancurd truly deserves the bite. What I got was moist beancurd that was crunchy on the outside, doused with savoury minced meat sauce and embellished with fried shallots, as well as chopped spring onions.

Stir-Fried Vegetable (Small) S$8.00
Taste: 9/10

Everyone, just look at that glossy green kailan (Chinese broccoli), which freshness was top-notch. Without being overly greasy, the leafy greens were executed well, retaining their juice and crunchy texture. I hardly give a high score for a vegetable dish, I realise, but this one deserves 9/10.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 6/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Mellben Legend Seafood has successfully won my heart. Anyone would like to go there with me in the near future? Haha...
