The best 'asam laksa' I've ever had in my life!

After our late lunch at Kedai Kopi Chung Wah, we walked down the crowded Jalan Hang Jebat, which is also commonly known as Jonker Street. Every Friday and Saturday evening. it turns into a bustling night market. Our aim was to find an eatery that's well-known for its tasty Peranakan dishes.

Nyonya Asam Laksa RM 7.00 (~S$2.65)
Taste: 9.5/10

I'm not trying to exaggerate, but the sour and spicy noodle dish really knocked my socks off. The delightful marriage between the unpretentious sour from tamarinds and the natural sweetness from shredded mackerel fish resulted in the creation of a stunning broth, which was further enhanced with chili.

The noodle was so chewy that I couldn't wait for each next spoonful of it to land on my mouth. It also came with a lot of ingredients, such as shrimps, fish balls, beancurd puffs, fried beancurd skin, egg, onions and cucumber slices. Awesome!

Baba Chendol RM 4.00 (~S$1.55)
Taste: 7.5/10

Moving on to the dessert, I was actually expecting it to be better, especially after trying the unbeatable dish above. While the combination of coconut milk and gula melaka (Malay brown sugar) was just right, some of the green jelly worms were frozen, thus they were devoid of the chewy texture I was looking for.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 1/10
Overall: 5/10

The eatery was jam-packed with a snaking queue, and only a few tables and chairs at sight. We managed to secure a small space at the side table for ourselves, but since there were no chairs available, we had a standing party with two other people. At that time, I just wanted to get out as soon as possible, and rush to see the renowned Christ Church (shown below) before I can finally go to the hotel. Pika's advice: I suppose it'd be better to take away the dishes, just like what some people did, and enjoy them at the comfort of your house or hotel room!
