SIN: Jade of India {CLOSED}

A huge selection of colourful Indian dishes with amicable service!

UPDATE (28/05/2019): The restaurant has closed down.

Situated next to Café Salivation, which review was written last month, Jade of India is also managed by the Raj Group of Restaurants. Having been pretty much amazed by the vegetarian food served by the former, I decided to give the non-vegetarian restaurant a try. Dining in Jade of India allows one to order food from Café Salivation as well, but not vice versa.

Tandoori Gobi S$7.10
Taste: 8/10

From the wide range of tandoori (Indian dishes roasted in a clay oven), I chose the tender, spicy cauliflowers - both meaning intended. The spices were pretty robust, packing quite a punch as they landed on the tongue. Fortunately, the fiery sensation only lasted for a second or two with each bite, toned down by the accompanying yogurt with mint.

Prawn Masala S$15.90
Taste: 8.5/10

A trip to an Indian restaurant wouldn't be complete without delving into the world of curry. Thick in consistency without being tear-inducing spicy, the dish was rich in the natural sweetness from the medium-sized prawns. The crustaceans could definitely be more succulent though, even though they weren't overcooked.

Mutton Biryani S$12.90
Taste: 8.5/10

I enjoyed the juicy boneless chunks of mutton, drizzled with the light curry gravy that came with the dish. In addition, the saffron-flavoured rice was aromatic and fluffy enough. What truly impressed me was the raita (Indian yogurt with vegetables) which was truly refreshing and had a nice balance of flavours.

Gulab Jamun S$5.00
Taste: 8/10

My initial intention was to order rasmalai (Indian dessert of cheese balls immersed in milk), but to my dismay, it was sold out. Thus, I went for the deep-fried cottage cheese dumplings laden with simple syrup. They were good, but I'd prefer crumblier ones. Pika's advice: For an additional S$0.50, you can get the same dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

Sweet Lassi S$4.50
Taste: 8/10

The mildly sweet yogurt drink was neither excessively thick nor too thin. It'd be better if it were served colder, and a bit of cardamom would help to make it fragrant.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 9/10
Overall: 8.5/10

I'd like to take the chance to commend one of the servers, whom I believe goes by the name of Mary as written on the bill, for the amicable service rendered that evening. She was full of smiles, engaging my BFF and me in hearty conversations as she served our dishes. Thank you!
