SIN: Café Salivation

Vegetarian spring roll filled with ricotta cheese!

Café Salivation is a vegetarian eatery serving a selection of MSG-free international cuisine, using only sunflower and olive oil. Previously situated somewhere along Syed Alwi Road, a haven of vegetarian food, it has moved to Race Course Road. Its proximity to Farrer Park MRT station is definitely a plus point.

The eatery is managed by the Raj Group of Restaurants, which aim is to "serve quality vegetarian food in a clean and appealing environment at attractive prices." I brought my little cow that day for fun!

Ricotta Cheese Roll-Ups S$7.50
Taste: 9/10

The most expensive appetiser dish proved to be scrumptious. Each of the light and crunchy spring roll was adequately stuffed with chunky ricotta cheese and herbs, which taste was further enhanced by tomato sauce. It came with a side salad which was pretty fresh.

Fettuccine Pesto S$13.50
Taste: 8.5/10

Looking at the colour of the dish, I really couldn't wait to take a forkful of the pasta topped with cheese. I was glad that it was al dente, covered with rich and creamy pesto sauce which exuded a nice fragrance. However, they could be more generous with the broccoli.

Thai Green Curry with Rice S$13.50
Taste: 8.5/10

It was regrettable that the chef prepared a bowl of green curry instead of its red counterpart that we'd ordered. However, we gladly took the piping hot curry filled with lots of tomatoes and eggplants, eventually discovering its intense mix of sweet and savoury flavours.

Apple Crumble S$5.00
Taste: 5/10

The dessert, unfortunately, was weak. I had no qualms about the apple filling which, on a second thought, could be sweeter. The crust, however, was not crumbly at all. In fact, the top layer was somewhat lumpy, calling for a longer baking time.

Pink Mango S$5.00
Taste: 8.5/10

Described as a "divine blend of of mango, orange and rose", the drink was indeed interesting. The unmistakable freshness of mangoes went really well with the sweet rose syrup. In my opinion, adding more acidic orange juice would make it better.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 6/10
Overall: 7/10

Although the waiter serving us was really friendly, I felt that the attention to details was lacking, despite the eatery being not too crowded. It wasn't only about the curry issue, but also the fact that cutlery wasn't immediately provided. I purposely ate the spring roll with my hand, and it was only minutes later that we got the cutlery. Pika's advice: The eatery also serves breakfast dishes! Check them out!
