JPN: Hotel Sunroute New Sapporo (ホテルサンルートニュー札幌) [Breakfast]

Ultra sweet pumpkin croquette; ultra crispy croissant!

I stayed at Hotel Sunroute New Sapporo (3*), which is quite close to Odori Park where my BFF made a snowman on our last day in Hokkaido, for a total of three nights. One thing for sure, everything exceeded my expectation of a 3* hotel. The buffet breakfast was definitely one that I truly enjoyed, not forgetting the view of trees covered with snow outside.

Rice Meal

The sticky and fluffy Japanese rice went really well with the sticky and slimy natto (Japanese fermented soybeans). The beancurd patty, as well as the eggs, was soft and comforting, while the pumpkin croquette was truly sweet and crispy. Moreover, the miso (Japanese fermented rice, barley and/or soybean) soup was full-bodied.

Western Plate

The vegetables for the salad were fresh, well-complemented by the flavourful potato salad. The omelette was creamy, but it could be fluffier. While the sausage was average, the bacon was juicy and not overly fatty.

Bread, Croissant & Egg

The breakfast roll was meaty, but not at all tough. What amazed me was the highly buttery croissant with its unparalled crispiness. It was really a hot item which was constantly replenished. As for the egg...

It was awesome! The egg white and the outer layer of the yolk had a smooth texture, but the latter was still runny inside. I wonder how they did it?

Pancakes

The pancakes were of acceptable fluffiness. The combination of butter and maple syrup has never failed to make me high in the morning.

Yogurt & Fruit Cocktail

I topped my plain yogurt with sweet strawberry sauce and sour kiwi sauce. Papaya, pineapple and pear slices could be found in the light syrup cocktail.

Orange, Vegetable & Grapefruit Juice

I'd think that each of them was a mixture of natural fruit juice and concentrate. The orange juice had a nice sweet and sour balance, while the vegetable juice was generally sweet with a detectable carrot smell. The grapefruit juice was refreshingly sweet and bitter.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Overall: 8.5/10

As a modern budget hotel, Hotel Sunroute New Sapporo has touched my heart. I'd love to stay there again when I go to Hokkaido again in the future. Pika's advice: If you happen to book a room without breakfast included, do try the buffet breakfast at least once!
