Milk and butter in an awesome ramen bowl!

Eating ramen during winter was truly heart-warming. Just like the Japanese, I'd say, "大最高!" I guess it can be loosely translated as "really the best!" Anyway, we found a small eatery near the Sapporo Clock Tower. To beat the chilly weather and to satisfy our hungry stomachs, we went in to look at what they've got to offer.

Potato and Corn Ramen with Milk ¥780 (~S$9.40)
Taste: 9/10

The actual name of the dish is じゃがコーン牛乳ラーメン. The poster of this particular dish was the one that really lured me in. The marriage between butter and milk was truly a happy one, not to forget the presence of creamy mashed potatoes and sweet corn kernels that made the party even more exuberant. The chewy noodle was met with lots of onion slices which still retained their crunchiness.

Oxtail Ramen ¥880 (~S$10.70)
Taste: 8.5/10

The actual name of the dish is テールラーメン. Another recommended dish, it had a rich soup with a delightful beefy aroma. There was adequate amount of fall-off-the-bone oxtail, as well as sweet onion slices. Adding more black pepper to the dish made it even more awesome.

Tegutan Ramen ¥880 (~S$10.70)
Taste: 8.5/10

The actual name of the dish is テグタンラーメン. To be honest, I have no idea what tegutan is; I can't find it in the dictionary either. Anyway, the spicy version of the oxtail noodle was as good. It wasn't that spicy, but the tingling sensation of cayenne pepper and gochujang (Korean paste of red chili, glutinous rice, fermented soybeans and salt) was most welcomed in the midst of winter.

Chicken Rice ¥200 (~S$2.40)
Taste: 7.5/10

The actual name of the dish is 鳥ご飯. Totally different from the Chinese version, the one that I had there was a bit sweet, a bit salty and somewhat sticky. In fact, it tasted a bit like lo mai gai (Chinese glutinous rice dumplling), but it wasn't oily. Pika's advice: You can have the smaller portion for ¥100 (~S$1.20) instead!

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8/10

We were the only customers that night as the eatery was about to close. However, the Japanese uncle running the eatery was kind enough to serve us until past 10.00pm. As a bonus, below is a picture of the Sapporo Clock Tower with falling snowflakes.
