TWN: Xiaoyoukeng Canteen @ Yangmingshan National Park

Recharge with Chinese snacks! :P

Being one of the eight national parks in Taiwan, Yangmingshan National Park has Mt. Qixing as the highest point in Taipei at an elevation of 1,120 m. I covered a distance of approximately 9.5 km for the day together with my buddy, and of course, Pikachu and Melon.

We took a rest at Xiaoyoukeng, famed for its fumaroles, which has a small canteen run by a friendly aunty. Well, thankfully the smell of the sulphur in the area wasn't that nasty.

Salty Rice Pudding NT$45.00 (~S$1.90)
Taste: 8/10

Soft, and yet dense, the salty rice pudding made a good snack for the day. The slight sweetness of the brown sauce complemented the slight saltiness of the rice pudding. Topped with bits of pork meat and preserved vegetables, it was quite an appetising steamed dish.

Rice Dumpling NT$30.00 (~S$1.25)
Taste: 7.5/10

Hidden inside the rice dumpling were pork meat and peanuts. I pretty much enjoyed the chewiness of the rice dumpling, although I have to say that it could definitely be stronger in terms of flavour.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10
Ambience: 7/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Pika's advice: I'm not doing an advertisement for any beverage companies, but do grab a bottle (or two) of Pocari Sweat or others for mineral replenishment ! :)
