MAS: Smokey Bear

"The only smoked meat in town!"

It was drizzling on our last night in Cameron Highlands. Too tired to head to town for dinner, we decided to give Smokey Bear, the latest addition in Strawberry Park Resort, a try. Frankly speaking, apart from breakfast, I rarely dine in restaurants in a hotel. Well, having smoked meat and seafood outdoor in the cool, crisp air proved to be quite rewarding.

The smoking in this eatery is done using woods and mature coconut husks. Each order of a main course is inclusive of a plate of salad. Oh, Pikachu and Melon were, as always, so excited when going overseas! :)

Fresh Salad (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

Sitting on the plate were apple, pineapple, papaya and watermelon cubes with a bit of greens. All of them were fresh, drenched with savoury dressing which could be thicker in consistency.

Smoked Mackerel Fish RM 18.00 (~S$7.45)
Taste: 7/10

We tried the smoked mackerel fish which was indeed aromatic, covered in sauce which was mildly milky. It had crispy skin that simply melted in the mouth, but it was a pity that the flesh wasn't as juicy as expected. While the fries were too dry for my liking, the corn and tomato were juicy.

Smoked Lamb Leg RM 26.00 (~S$10.75)
Taste: 8/10

The smoked lamb leg was equally aromatic, covered in black pepper sauce which could definitely be spicier. The meat itself, still a bit red after coming out of the smoker, was pretty juicy and tender. Well, they could definitely do something with the fries to make the overall eating experience more enjoyable.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 8/10

After asking for the bill, a waitress came to us shivering, saying, "Sejuknyaaa..." (lit. "It's so cold..."). I thought she ought to have got used to it? Haha... Pika's advice: You may want to order the soup and dessert of the day to complete your meal!
