SIN: Saizeriya Ristorante e Caffé

When salad won the battle against main course... :P

Saizeriya originated from Japan, specialising in Italian and Japanese fusion dishes. It has got to be one of the cheapest restaurants you can find in a shopping mall. The first time I went to the branch in Liang Court was before I started this food blog, and I doubt I have the pictures of what I ate during the first visit haha...

Baked Asari Clam S$3.90
Taste: 7.5/10

The oven-baked clams were of adequate freshness, although I wished they could be bigger in size. While it might be a tad too salty, I enjoyed the garlic aroma emanating from the dish.

Apart from the appetiser above, my friend and I got ourselves the value-for-money set lunch each, comprising a small bowl of salad, a main course and free flow beverages. Pika's advice: To get the set lunches, come down on weekdays between 11.00am and 5.00pm.

Small Salad (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

I enjoyed the salad which had fresh, crisp vegetables drizzled with mayonnaise sauce which wasn't overly heavy. Halfway through, I added a bit of olive oil which could be taken from one of the condiments corners for added fragrance.

Carbonara Lunch S$7.90
Taste: 6.5/10

The spaghetti cooked in cream sauce and eggs was, sadly, kinda dry. Having said that, it actually had a nice balance of flavour, topped with bacon slices for added taste, as well as parmesan cheese to impart a more savoury note.

Hamburger Lunch S$8.90
Taste: 7.5/10

The beef hamburger was tender and moist, laden with brown sauce which I thought could be a bit sweeter to balance the flavour further. It came with potato wedges, sweet corn kernels and a fried sunny-side up egg which could be less dry.

Oreo Cheesecake S$3.90
Taste: 7.5/10

The small slice of cheesecake with the world's famous biscuits was, as expected, not as creamy as those I've had elsewhere. Nevertheless, it was still good with bigger biscuit chunks stuffed in between the cake in addition to the crumbs on top of it.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8/10

I like the fact that the tables in the restaurant are well-separated from one another. Service was friendly and pretty efficient, except that the staff could help to clear the plates after giving us the dessert.
