SIN: Hood Bar and Café

Flush your worries away with Mudslide!

Eat, drink and be merry. When you're feeling down, sometimes you just want to chill while listening to hyper live music. Fans of Jimi Hendrix, anyone? Hood Bar and Café has got one pizza variety named after the American musician. Care to guess the toppings? In any case, do read to find out! :)

Hood Grilled Skewers
NZ Leg of Lamb (S$3.00) - Taste: 7/10
Fresh Tiger Prawns (S$2.00) - Taste: 8/10
Braised and Grilled Pork Belly (S$2.00) - Taste: 8/10
Spanish Chorizo Pork Sausage (S$2.00) - Taste: 7.5/10

A minimum of four sticks has to be ordered if you want to try the skewers rubbed with the bar's signature spices. The tiger prawns were sweet and juicy, while the pork belly had just the right amount of fats to whet the appetite. The pork sausage was nicely chewy, while the lamb leg was pretty tender, but it could be juicier.

Hendrix Red House Pizza S$16.00
Taste: 7/10

I initially wanted to order the Chinese style pizza with toppings such as char siew (Chinese BBQ pork), spring onions and hoisin sauce (Chinese sauce made of starch, soybeans, vinegar, etc.), but they ran out of it. Thus, I settled for the chili crab pizza with mozarella cheese and spicy tomato sauce. It was indeed cheesy and had real, but only less than a handful of crab meat. Jimi Hendrix might be disappointed haha...

Seafood Aglio Olio Spaghetti with XO Sauce S$16.00
Taste: 8.5/10

In general, I like plain aglio olio pasta without meat or seafood as they tend to ruin the sacred flavours of olive oil and garlic. However, I truly enjoyed the one that I had in Hood Bar and Café which was highly aromatic and lipsmackingly good, having sweet and luscious seafood items at the same time. Actually, I could only detect a tinge of XO sauce, but it didn't matter at all.

Mudslide S$14.00
Taste: 8.5/10

I couldn't resist the creamy cocktail of vodka, coffee liqueur and Irish cream, in which the ingredients were blended well that jolted the taste buds without being overly sweet. To top it off, a Maraschino cherry was let to sink to the bottom of the glass for you indulge for a pleasant finish.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service: 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10

The street art in the bar is pretty stunning, I must say. If only the seats can be more comfortable... Haha... Pika's advice: Go for the crazy hours promotion from 5.00pm to 9.00pm during the weekdays: S$5.00 for housepour spirits, housepour wines and draught beer!
