SIN: Charly T's {CLOSED}

Smoky, savoury Hawaiian style pork!

UPDATE (01/05/2016): The eatery has closed down.

2013 is here! Pikachu, Melon and I hope that everyone has had a good start so far. While the first half of this year is going to be very busy due to the amount of time that has to be spent on the last lap of my final year project in NUS, I'll try my best to update at least once a week. Today's review is on Charly T, an eatery famous for its rotisserie chicken.

1/4 Original Recipe Rotisserie Chicken (2 Additions) S$13.00

It's claimed that their chicken meat is always marinated for more than 13 hours before it's cooked. Other varieties include kampong chicken, Kansas City BBQ and black pepper, all priced at S$15.00 for 1/4 chicken with two side dishes.

1/4 Original Recipe Rotisserie Chicken (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

The chicken wasn't disappointing, although it wasn't the best I've ever tasted in my life. The meat was sweet and tender, well-contrasted by the slightly crisp exterior. I particularly enjoyed the creamy sesame sauce which was piquant without being too heavy. The salsa-like sauce could be sweeter.

Additions (Set Menu)
German Potato Salad - Taste: 7.5/10
Macaroni and Cheese - Taste: 5.5/10

Out of the four choices available, I indulged in the German concoction which had crunchy potato cubes topped with savoury bacon bits. It was a pity that the other side dish of macaroni and cheese didn't live up to my expectation, especially since the cheese tasted artificial. Pika's advice: Instead of the dismal macaroni and cheese, try the butter garlic rice or fresh vegetables!

Kalua Pork S$18.00
Taste: 8.5/10

The Hawaiian pork belly is said to be marinated in leaves for 48 hours. I truly enjoyed the smoky aroma emanating from the moist pork belly which was indeed cooked till fork tender. The BBQ sauce was lusciously sweet, while the peanuty sauce was somewhat tangy. The lightly sautéed vegetables served on the side were good without being greasy.

Molten Cake (with Mocha Chocolate Chips Ice Cream) S$11.00
Taste: 8.5/10

The gleaming molten cake was full of chocolate goodness. While it wasn't as warm as I'd love it to be, the decadent cake was delectably sweet and moist, revealing a moderate amount of molten chocolate as soon as it was cut into two halves. The ice cream was alright; there wasn't anything special about it. Anyway, don't you find it weird to have a molten cake with mocha chocolate chips ice cream? Read below!

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 7.5/10
Service: 7.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

I initially wanted to order a pancake dish called Kaiserschmarrn for dessert, but they ran out of it. Since I couldn't possibly wait for two hours just to get that, I chose the molten cake which was supposed to go with vanilla ice cream. Yet, they ran out of vanilla ice cream and I was supposed to pay an additional S$1.00 for the supposedly more premium mocha chocolate chips flavour. Okay... No big deal, but that was sucky.
