SIN: Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria

Ravioli with caciotta cheese inside!

Alright, this is the last review of 2012! I dined there neither on Christmas Eve nor today though. For your information, Capri is the name of an enchanting island belonging to Italy on the south side of the Gulf of Naples. Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria is one of the restaurants my hug-Italian-food friend recommended. As I sat down on the reserved seating, I was greeted by the amiable owner, Mr. Luca.

Portobello Caprese S$18.00
Taste: 8.5/10

From the list of appetiser dishes, I chose the portobello mushroom, one with an open flat cap stuffed with mashed anchovies and black olives. Sitting on a bed of fresh vegetables, the mushroom was pretty juicy and the non-fishy paste was light on the palate, yet tantalising enough for my taste buds. Topped with breadcrubs and melted mozarella cheese, it was an amazing creation.

Bread

As usual, I don't fancy putting a picture of bread on top even though it appeared first on the table. Anyway, the bread was soft and airy, served with an aromatic olive oil and vinaigrette dip.

Ravioli Caprese S$20.00
Taste: 8.5/10

For the main course, I ordered one of the house specialties which happened to be free of meat. Not surprisingly, the ravioli was al dente, enveloping within itself tangy artisanal caciotta cheese produced from a blend of ewe's and cow's milk, Italian herbs and egg yolks. Sautéed with fresh tomatoes, basil leaves and olive oil, the main course had a right balance of flavour. Pika's advice: Fancy a pasta dish with seafood? Try the recommended Scialatielli di Capri!

Anacapri Pizza S$23.00
Taste: 8/10

Mr. Luca decides to serve only one size of pizzas (12"), and I thought I ought to try one of the creations since the restaurant bears the name 'pizzeria'. A few slices of beef tenderloin (not enough?) were sitting preetily on the pizza base which wasn't exactlyy paper-thin, but airy and cheesy enough, thanks to the mozzarella and shaved parmesan cheese.

Torta al Limone S$10.00
Taste: 8.5/10

The lemon cake caught my attention as it's described to be a "special recipe of Mama Teresa (Luca's mom)". It emitted a heady lemony scent even before the plate was placed on the table. Dusted with castor sugar and served with cream on the side, the warm cake was light in texture and tasted mildly sweet. I believe that adding a bit more acidity from the fruit would improve the flavour further.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8.5/10
Overall: 8.5/10

It was a fulfilling dinner for sure. I also enjoyed chatting with the humble owner who also helped to clear our plates even though I believe there were enough staff on a not-so-crowded Thursday evening. Have a great New Year's Eve and a fulfilling year ahead, everyone! :D
