HKG: Canteen II @ HKUST [Breakfast]

HK style breakfast set before flying off... :/

Although there are more food places that one can find in HKUST, Canteen II shall be the last one I'm going to write. Frankly speaking, the two breakfast sets shown below were those my friend and I ate before we left for the airport to return to the little red dot.

HK Style Breakfast Set HK$18.00 (~S$3.00)
(set includes two dishes and a choice of coffee, milk tea or soft drink)

One of the sets purchased was a combination of Western and Chinese food, what people call to be HK style breakfast, together with a cup of milk tea.

Toast, Bacon and Fried Egg (Set Menu)
Taste: 6.5/10

There was nothing special about the Western platter comprising a fried egg with a somewhat runny yolk, a piece of fried bacon which was moist, as well as a toast which was pretty airy and crunchy, but sadly, without even a small dollop of butter.

Vermicelli with Shredded Pork and Preserved Vegetables (Set Menu)
Taste: 7/10

The Chinese dish wasn't exactly flavourful, but I enjoyed the mild saltiness which the preserved vegetables lent to the soup. Anyway, it was an easy-to-swallow dish despite the sadness felt deep within.

Special Recommendation Breakfast Set HK$19.00 (~S$3.15)
(set includes two dishes and a choice of coffee, milk tea or soft drink)

I believe the above-mentioned breakfast set has its items changed periodically. At that time, it comprised crispy buns and pan-fried egg white (yes, sans yolk, for those health freaks!), as well as penne in tomato-based borsch (Ukrainian soup which is usually made of beetroots).

Crispy Buns and Pan-Fried Egg White (Set Menu)
Taste: 6.5/10

There's really nothing to talk about the pan-fried egg white, despite it being not oily, but the crispy buns were delectably crispy and floury. It was a delight to dip them into the borsch.

Russian Borsch with Penne (Set Menu)
Taste: 7/10

The tomato soup was pretty heart-warming, although I wish it'd be slightly thicker. Inside was a combination of penne, non-fatty beef slices, cabbages and carrots. I prefer macaroni for breakfast though.

Milk Tea (Set Menu)
Taste: 8/10

The milk tea, just like the those which can be found in other canteens, surely didn't disappoint. In fact, I enjoyed Canteen II's version which, althought not entirely full-bodied, was slightly thicker than the rest with an adequate amount of milk.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

Pika's advice: Sweet tea lovers, feel free to grab the white and brown sugar sachets provided. I've got nothing much to say for now, but could you imagine the feeling of having to end your exchange programme? :P
