THA: Krua Apsorn

Nice contrast between the green and yellow curries!

Looking for authentic Thai food loved by the Thai royal family? Come to Krua Apsorn (lit. Kitchen of the Angels), which chef has previously served Princess Mother Srinagarindra and her daughter, Princess Galayani Vadhana, who is the sister of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Krua Apsorn is always packed during lunch and dinner hours, and I have to admit that the eatery may be a bit difficult to find for tourists.

Omelette Fried Egg with Crab THB 85.00 (~S$3.35)
Taste: 8/10

Firm outside, but moist and fluffy inside, the egg was best eaten with the accompanying chili sauce which was sweet and not excessively spicy. If you're wondering, yes, I could see real crab meat inside, although there wasn't too much of it.

Fried Chicken Wings THB 85.00 (~S$3.35)
Taste: 8.5/10

The chicken wings were fried to perfection, for they were really crispy on the outside, but the tender meat still retained the juice inside. With a hint of traditional spices, they were yummy.

Fish Ball Curry THB 100.00 (~S$3.95)
Taste: 8.5/10

The sweet and rich green curry had quite a generous amount of firm and chewy handmade fish balls, not those super bouncy commercial ones. Cooked with Thai eggplants, the green curry was truly aromatic, thanks to the fresh basil leaves.

Sour and Spicy Yellow Curry THB 120.00 (~S$4.75)
Taste: 9/10

In my opinion, the best dish was the refreshingly sour and spicy yellow curry cooked without coconut milk, providing a lovely contrast to the above-mentioned rich green curry. It was full of slightly, but addictively crunchy young lotus stems, and there were two medium-sized prawns which, if they could be more succulent, would make the dish perfect.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8.5/10
Ambience: 5.5/10
Service: 7/10
Overall: 7/10

Since it was crowded, gone was the chance of having a quiet lunch. However, for the solid taste of their food, Krua Apsorn shall be a reason for my next visit to Bangkok! Pika's advice: Many people have mentioned about their handmade coconut sorbet goodness. It was sold out when I reached there, so remember to come early to get one!
