PHI: Aling Tonya's Seafood Palutuan {MOVED}

"A place where you can have your seafood freshly cooked according to your specifications."

UPDATE (30/09/2017): The restaurant has moved to SM Mall of Asia.

Started as a humble local eatery in a wet market in Baclaran in the 1980s, Aling Tonya's Seafood Palutuan has since grown in business with a total of 8 branches. Cooking charges vary according to the weight of the seafood items ordered, as well as how would you like them done.

Hipon Sweet Chili Seasonal Price + PHP 150.00 (~S$4.55)
Taste: 8/10

Alright, since I'm not allergic to any kinds of seafood, I dared to order randomly. As you can see, hipon seems to be a medium-sized prawn. Cooked with a moderate amount of chili, the dish wasn't very spicy and the sauce was sweet, but not overly so. The prawns were really fresh with sweet and firm meat. The price for half a kg of hipon the other day was PHP 240.00 (~S$7.30)

Talaba Steamed with Shell Seasonal Price + PHP 150.00 (~S$4.55)
Taste: 7.5/10

Hmm, talaba appears to be an oyster. The oysters were fresh in general, but one of them was just a bit stale. Most of them were also plump and juicy. The price for a kg of talaba the other day was PHP 180.00 (~S$5.45).

Ensaladang Mangga PHP 120.00 (~S$3.65)
Taste: 6/10

When I was ordering, I guessed that ensaladang mangga would be something similar to Indonesian sambal mangga muda, and yeah, I was somewhat right. Young green mangoes, tomatoes and shallots were mixed together with a chili sauce pre-mixed with bagoong or shrimp paste. The mangoes were crunchy and refreshingly sour, but the chili sauce was quite salty.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7/10
Ambience: 6/10
Service: 4/10
Overall: 5.5/10

Maybe it's just me, but I found that the staff at the Seaside Boulevard branch weren't exactly friendly with foreigners, but certainly they weren't rude either. Also, I had to wait for quite some time for the food to arrive. Pika's advice: A lot of the items in the menu are in Tagalog. The staff who took my order the other day wasn't very helpful; you may want to order randomly just like what I did (definitely NOT an advice haha...)!
