PHI: PAL Domestic Mabuhay Lounge @ Manila Airport

A bowl of congee (or two) to warm your heart and soul!

After visiting Resorts World Manila which is just opposite the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, I spent a few hours in the PAL Domestic Mabuhay Lounge, waiting for my early flight to Cebu.

Arroz Caldo

Arroz caldo is originally a type of Chinese congee adapted to the Spanish taste. The congee was really addictive: thick and full-bodied, thanks to the chicken broth with which it was cooked. Topped with salted eggs, crispy anchovies, fried garlic bits and scallions, it was heavenly. Pika's advice: Be warned that the calamansi juice provided is very strong. Just a few drops of it will turn your congee into a highly acidic mixture!

Mini Burgers

There were a few different mini burgers served the other day. The burger buns, sadly, were kinda stale and thus hard to bite. The beef patty at the bottom of the stack (carrot, onion and eggplant) was a bit dry, and I guess I don't have to describe the usual canned tuna.

Muffins & Sponge Cake

The muffins were alright, where the chocolate-flavoured beat the vanilla-flavoured hands down simply because the latter was lacking in taste. The palm sugar sponge cake wasn't overly sweet and not too mushy.

Diet 7 Up & Mineral Water

Nothing much to say here, of course. Expect a selection of canned beverages, in addition to coffee and tea. Oh, I don't recall seeing any alcoholic beverages inside the lounge.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 6.5/10
Ambience: 8.5/10
Overall: 7.5/10

Even though the lounge isn't that big, I managed to relax and take a short nap, perhaps because there were only a few people around. Anyway, most of them were sleeping. Free Wi-Fi is available; do ask for the password from the receptionist.
