PHI: Goldilocks Bakeshop

"For most Filipinos, the Goldilocks fairytale has two versions."

Yup, the naughty golden-haired girl who made the little bear cried by eating his porridge and breaking his chair, and the famous bakery establishment since 1966! Nowadays, there are several branches in the States, Canada and Thailand as well.

A lot of people have mentioned that whenever you come to the Philippines, you should drop by Goldilocks Bakeshop to have a bite on their brownies.

Classic Brownies PHP 37.00 (~S$1.10)
Taste: 8.5/10

Apparently, there are three flavours: Classic, Rocky Road and Triple Chocolate, but I could only find the Classic one the other day, perhaps because I reached the bakeshop at around 9.00pm. To me, it was very chocolatey and thus delightful, although it was a bit sticky on the teeth. Now, I wonder how the Triple Chocolate flavour is like?

Polvoron Selections (12 pcs) PHP 60.00 (~S$1.80)
Cashew - Taste: 7.5/10
Coffee Crumble - Taste: 8.5/10
Cookies n' Cream - Taste: 7.5/10
Peanut - Taste: 8/10
Pinipig - Taste: 7.5/10
Ube - Taste: 8/10

Polvoron is a type of heavy, soft and crumby Spanish shortbread. The taste of milk, being one of the main ingredients, was strong in all the flavours. I guess I don't need to explain everything one by one, but the most palatable flavour was coffee crumble which was akin to a good cup of milk coffee and not cloyingly sweet. The ube (lit. purple yam) flavour exuded an appetising aroma, but somehow its texture was too crumbly compared to the rest. I'd never heard about pinipig, immature glutinous rice, but to me, it had a toasted flavour which was okay.

Melon's Rating
Taste: 8/10

I also wanted to try the cheese ensaymada, but it was nowhere in sight. Well, I'd love to bring all these back to Singapore for my friends, but sadly, they can't really last long. Sorry! :( Pika's advice: Do look out for ongoing promotions on the website!
