MFM: Lord Stow's Bakery

The most famous egg tarts in Macau!

This shall be the last review of the week as we're going to Bangkok tomorrow! Ready for the most famous pastéis de nata (Portuguese egg tarts) in Macau? Andrew Stow hails from England, opening his first bakery on Coloane Island in late 1980s.

The bakery currently has a few branches in Macau, as well as a few Asian countries: the Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan. I bought a few egg tarts from the branch in Venetian Macau.

Portuguese Egg Tart MOP 8.00 (~S$1.30)
Taste: 9/10

Too bad the picture of the egg tart doesn't come out as good as Margaret's version in the previous post. Anyway, I enjoyed Lord Stow's version more which had a higher degree of caramelisation that contributed to the heightened bittersweet sensation. The crust was crispy and flaky, but slightly more moist, perhaps due to the higher amount of butter used. Finally, the egg custard was creamy and more milky. Awesome!

Lord Stow's Bakery also sells a variety of apparently mouth-watering items, including cheesecakes and chocolate rum balls. Pika's advice: If you've got the time, try to go to the original store in 1 Rua do Tassara, Coloane!
