SIN: Ruyi {CLOSED}

Value-for-money Chinese fast food!

UPDATE (09/04/2020): The eatery has closed down.

October is here! Anyway, let's take a break from France stuff. Ruyi is a Chinese fast food eatery founded by the famous Tung Lok Group of Singapore. You could expect a wide variety of rice and noodle dishes in this particular eatery. I visited the branch at Resorts World Sentosa the other day for dinner.

Ruyi Set B S$11.00

I can't exactly remember what the other sets have to offer, but I don't know why Ruyi Set B was the one which really caught my attention the other day. The three items included in the set are as follows.

Seaweed-Egg Flower Chicken Soup
Taste: 7.5/10

The simple soup, which had a generous amount of seaweed but lacking in egg white, had quite a strong ginger taste which was really nice. I wouldn't mind having this everyday as a comfort food. :P

Ruyi Fried Rice
Taste: 7.5/10

Good news: Ruyi's fried rice dishes are cooked using olive oil! The egg fried rice was quite yummy, and it was generously garnished with BBQ pork bits (albeit cut into small pieces that they weren't very distinct in taste), carrot cubes and scallion. You'd also get a few shrimps too.

Fresh Mango Pudding
Taste: 7/10

The mango pudding wasn't bad, but not fantastic either. At least, I was glad that it was firm and not watery.

Vegetable Noodle in Soup S$6.20
Taste: 7.5/10

Thanks to the various ingredients such as tua kee (beancurd skin), bok choy (Chinese cabbage), cabbage, cauliflower, corn, enoki and shiitake mushrooms, the soup was full of flavour. The noodle was delectably springy.

Turnip Cake S$0.80 / piece
Taste: 8/10

The turnip cake was really nice, thanks to the aromatic dried shrimp. It wasn't oily like most turnip cakes I've eaten, and yet it wasn't too dry. But well, I guess you could see the inconsistency in the size of each piece haha...  Pika's advice: Do try at least one piece! :P

Melon's Rating
Taste: 7.5/10
Ambience: 6.5/10
Overall: 7/10

The turnip cake was really nice, thanks to the aromatic dried shrimp. It wasn't oily like most turnip cakes I've eaten before.
