Extra cheesy gnocchi!

I shall continue with another restaurant I found in Marseille. The other day we were pretty indecisive as to what we'd like to eat for dinner. After walking around for almost half an hour, we decided to give Chez Mario a try. From the outside, I seemed like the restaurant had a very romantic ambience with its dim lights.

Gnocchi à la Mario €11.00 (~S$19.30)

Taste: 8.5/10

I ordered one of their specialty dishes, and true enough, it was fantastic. The gnocchi bits, made of potatoes and flour, were slightly chewy, not too starchy and not wholly bland. They were swimming in a sea of thick and rich cheese sauce, sprinkled liberally with ham and mushroom, which made me keep asking for more.

Pizzarella €11.50 (~S$20.20)

Taste: 6/10

Fancy a plate of charcoal-grilled pizza? While the pizza itself had a right balance of flavour, it was awfully burnt on the sides as you can see. We had no choice but to throw away the most of the crust because it was too bitter to be eaten. Also, they should be more generous with the olives!

Brochette Mixte €18.00 (~S$31.62)

Taste: 6/10

My friend, Irene, ordered this dish. The beef, sausage and intestine skewers came with salad and a plate of plain spaghetti cooked with butter. While the beef and sausage skewers were quite nice even though they were a tad too dry, especially when dipped in the slightly sweet mayonnaise, the intestine had quite an offensive smell. The vegetables weren't fresh. Oh, I just realised that the sausage wasn't skewered. :P

Even though the restaurant wasn't that crowded, almost all the waiters and waitresses said that they were busy when we called them to take our orders. They weren't friendly either, but well, I could actually overlook that as I enjoyed my plate of gnocchi.
